Media Center freezes on change media file with "waiting to finish network I/O"
Hi I upgraded my Media Center computer to Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) some months ago and ever since the Media Center Application occasionally freezes. It seems to happen when there is a rapid change of what is played for example when a track is skipped. Looking in resource monitor I can see that the in the wait chain for the service "svchost.exe (LocalServiceAndNoImpersonation)" that it is waiting to finish network I/O and other processes seems to be waiting for this process. I use DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter (rev C)Driver version: 2.1.6.0 The computer is part of homegroup. Any suggestions on how to continue analyzing and resolving this problem? I thought I would try with a different network adapter but I would like to know if there is any config changes I might try first. BR,Magnus

This seems to be a fairly old card. Have you tried installing the driver in compatability mode yet? I couldn't find any drivers for rev C, but I did find vista drivers for original and rev b (they will only work with those specific cards). My advice is to try whatever drivers you originally got with that unit in compatibility mode (XP?) and if that doesn't work out, spend a few buck for a good card.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. You can also try Clean Boot mode to check if the issue is caused by any third party application.Vivian Xing - MSFT

HiI disabled the D-Link card and tried with a network cable direct to "Intel(R) PRO/1000 PM Network Connection" and the problem is still there. I searched Intels site and realised that the motherboard D945PVS is not supported for Windows 7 (This information was not available when I installed) so I guess I shouldn't spend to much time on this? Best option seems to be to configure the mediaplayer so it limits any network calls when playing media files and start saving for a new computer...BR, Magnus

Hi Magnus,It should be the motherboard problem and configuring network settings maybe not work. If you want to change media network settings, please open “Network and Sharing center” and turn off file sharing and media streaming. If it still does not work, you may need to upgrade motherboard to a Windows 7 compatible version. Thank you.Vivian Xing - MSFT
